The time it takes the BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupé to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h.
The engine of the BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupé
The BMW M TwinPower Turbo 8-cylinder petrol engine with a displacement of 4.4 litres and 460 kW (625 hp) of the BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupé is the most powerful of all engines in BMW standard production vehicles. Equipped with two twin scroll turbochargers, high-pressure injection and Valvetronic, the high-performance power unit inside the BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupé impresses both on the road and on the racetrack: 750 Nm of torque, acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds and from 0 to 200 km/h in 11 seconds.
The M Mode button on the centre console making its debut in the new BMW M8 can be used to alter both the responses of the driver assistance systems and the information shown in the instrument cluster and Head-Up Display.
M Mode allows the driver to activate ROAD and SPORT settings, while the new BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupé also comes with a TRACK setting. These modes enhance the hallmark M driving experience according to the situation at hand. Changing the mode alters the information presented to the driver on the screens, while the safety-enhancing interventions by the driver assistance systems – such as active braking or steering inputs – are reduced to a bare minimum or deactivated altogether.
The Adaptive M suspension makes it possible to adjust the damper characteristics to suit any given driving situation, increasing driving dynamics and comfort. In addition to the standard COMFORT setting for increased driving comfort, the SPORT program offers more direct damper settings, and SPORT+ for use on the racetrack.
The M Carbon ceramic brake is part of the motorsport DNA. By using a carbon fiber composite ceramic, the use of braking force is even more direct and the fading stability further increased. In addition, it is corrosion-free, more heat-resistant, greatly reduced in wear and contributes to weight reduction. Its lightweight construction reduces rotating and unsprung mass, improving acceleration, responsiveness and handling, but also increased driving dynamics and improved suspension comfort and reduced fuel consumption. Due to its very high heat resistance, the M Carbon ceramic brake is also suitable for race-track use in continuous use. The perforated, ventilated brake disc ring ensures more intensive heat dissipation. The M carbon ceramic brake can be recognized by the color of the brake calipers in the color gold metallic as well as the characteristic M logo.
With BMW M xDrive and the Active M differential, sporting performance can be experienced even more intensively for everyday driving, as well as at the racetrack. The M specific technology distributes the driving force steplessly and fully variable between the front and rear axle, so that the vehicle can be directed precisely and safely both dynamically and under unfavorable weather conditions. Even in the basic setting with the Dynamic Stability Control switched on (DSC) and 4WD experience the typical M agility. With the M Dynamic Mode and 4WD Sport the agility is significantly increased again. Depending on your personal preferences or track conditions, you can choose between the drive variants 4WD, 4WD Sport and 2WD in DSC-off mode. In the 2WD mode, ambitious sports drivers get their money's worth because the drive is exclusively via the rear axle. Only the Active M differential intervenes by distributing the driving force between the rear wheels in a situation-dependent and fully variable manner to ensure optimum traction and driving stability. All in all, M xDrive extends the driving dynamics qualities, optimizes the handling characteristics and makes the vehicle easier to control, so that the high performance can be enjoyed even more intensively.
The 8-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic offers numerous shifting options: from extremely dynamic to particularly comfortable, and smooth to fuel-saving. You can shift manually using the gear lever or the gearshift paddles on the steering wheel, or put the vehicle into automatic mode and let the transmission do the work.
The integrated braking system with two selectable brake pedal characteristics is characterized by fast response, very good dosing, short braking distances and a sporty brake pedal feeling. Thanks to the particularly fast control interventions, the highest driving dynamics and increased safety are guaranteed. The essential functions such as brake actuation, brake booster and brake control (DSC) are combined in a compact, weight-optimized brake module. The required brake pressure can be built even faster, more precise and more individual. The operation of the brake pedal is detected by various sensors and forwarded electronically to a control unit. It processes the data together with further sensor information and instantly calculates the desired brake pressure, which is set by the actuator and forwarded to each individual wheel via the hydraulics. The pedal feel can be adjusted in the direction of a comfortable or a sporty characteristic.

The models illustrated include optional equipment.
Official data on fuel consumption and CO2 emissions were determined in accordance with the mandatory measurement procedure and comply with Regulation (EU) 715/2007 valid at the time of type approval. In case of a range, figures in the NEDC take into account differences in the selected wheel and tire size; figures in the WLTP take into account any optional equipment. WLTP values are used for assessing taxes and other vehicle-related charges that are (also) based on CO2 emissions, as well as for the purposes of vehicle-specific subsidies, if applicable. Where applicable, the NEDC values listed were calculated based on the new WLTP measurement procedure and then converted back to the NEDC measurement procedure for comparability reasons. For more information on the WLTP and NEDC measurement procedures, see https://www.bmw.de/wltp.
For further information about the official fuel consumption and the specific CO2 emission of new passenger cars can be taken out of the „handbook of fuel consumption, the CO2 emission and power consumption of new passenger cars“, which is available at all selling points and at https://www.dat.de/co2/.
