The BMW Group is an official partner of the European Championships Munich 2022 – the biggest sporting event in Munich since the 1972 Olympic Games. From 11th to 21st August, roughly 4,700 athletes compete in nine different sports. In total, medals are up for grabs in 177 events. The medals themselves were designed by Designworks, the BMW Group’s innovation studio. As premium partner, the BMW Group is providing an extensive fleet of shuttle cars for the European Championships in Munich. The fleet consists exclusively of electrified vehicles from the BMW and MINI brands. In addition, BMW Group is also helping to make the event a logistical success and providing free parking for visitors during the competition. BMW M is on site with two more special motorsport highlights: the new BMW M Hybrid V8 endurance racing car is presented as well as the BMW i4 M50 Safety Car, which is driven in the FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup.

EMOTIONAL STAGEMENT.

As part of the official opening ceremony for the European Championships on 10th August, the BMW Headquarters and BMW Museum were illuminated in a unique way to welcome all the athletes and guests. The nine sports in the European Championships were presented and orchestrated in a combination of laser and video projections. The symbols for the individual sports were based on the design from the 1972 Olympic Games, which also took place in Munich. The facades of the iconic company headquarters, which celebrates its 50th birthday this year, were lit up in interaction with emotional images on the museum.

BMW 1602 Electric and BMW i4

Electric cars past and present: BMW 1602 Electric and BMW i4 eDrive40.

The BMW 1602 Electric, BMW Group’s first fully-electric vehicle, is also 50 this year. The BMW 1602 Electric was used as the lead car for the marathon at the Olympic Games in Munich, and naturally also featured in the illuminations. Together with the BMW i4, which is produced just a few metres away at the BMW Group’s main plant in Munich, the two products underline the progress achieved by the company in 50 years of electromobility.

BMW M Hybrid V8

At the European Championships Munich 2022, the visitors of BMW Welt will get an exclusive look at the BMW M Hybrid V8.

The camouflage livery is an absolute eye-catcher. It is reminiscent of important racing vehicles from the history of IMSA racing – such as the 1975 BMW 3.0 CSL, the 1978 BMW 320i Turbo or the 1981 BMW M1/C. In this way, the look celebrates 50 years of BMW M in a very special way. The racing bolide is powered by an eight-cylinder turbo engine with supplementary electric drive. A must-see for the guests of the European Championships.

Official data on power consumption and electric range were determined in accordance with the mandatory measurement procedure and comply with Regulation (EU) 715/2007 valid at the time of type approval. In case of a range, figures in the NEDC take into account differences in the selected wheel and tire size; figures in the WLTP take into account any optional equipment. WLTP values are used for assessing taxes and other vehicle-related charges that are (also) based on CO2 emissions, as well as for the purposes of vehicle-specific subsidies, if applicable. Where applicable, the NEDC values listed were calculated based on the new WLTP measurement procedure and then converted back to the NEDC measurement procedure for comparability reasons. For newly type-tested vehicles since 01.01.2021, the official data no longer exist according to NEDC, but only according to WLTP. For more information on the WLTP and NEDC measurement procedures, see https://www.bmw.com/wltp.

For further information about the official fuel consumption and the specific CO2 emission of new passenger cars can be taken out of the „handbook of fuel consumption, the CO2 emission and power consumption of new passenger cars“, which is available at all selling points and at https://www.dat.de/co2/.
