For four decades, the number “7” on the rear of a BMW has stood for a combination of luxury, driving pleasure and innovation around the world. The most recent sixth model generation in particular embodies this very tradition-rich union of innovative technology and exclusivity. Elite exterior design and elegant design features in the interior: limited to 200, the BMW 7 Series Edition 40 Jahre (fuel consumption combined 12.8 l/100 km; CO2 emissions combined 294 g/km) enters the spotlight for the first time in its world premiere at the International Automobile Exhibition (IAA) 2017 in Frankfurt.
The history of the BMW 7 Series brings together a host of technological milestones. Since 1977, the luxury sedan has taken on the role of pioneer for technological innovations, which then find their way into other series and always cause a sensation in the automobile industry. The Check Control System (1977), the first 12-cylinder engine in a German car in the post-war years (1987), the first permanently-affixed navigation system in a European series car (1994), the revolutionary operating concept iDrive as well as the mobility service BMW Online including e-mail account (2001) and the premiere of unlimited internet access in a car (2008) are all trailblazing innovations which were first presented in the BMW 7 series. The latest model generation impresses with its innovative carbon light-construction concept. Also behind the wheel, the BMW Gesture Control and the driving modus ADAPTIVE are innovations which clearly boost driving pleasure.
