At 635 hp, the BMW M5 CS is the most powerful production vehicle in the history of BMW M. With numerous lightweight construction elements and a suspension tuned for the racetrack, the M automobile is predestined to make a splash at the oval. Last weekend the time had come: The BMW M5 CS led the field into the race as pace car for the BMW Endurance Challenge at Daytona. Driver Connor De Phillippi from the BMW team Rahal Letterman Lanigan (RLL) tested the BMW M5 CS in advance. The result was a unanimous opinion – and a lot of fun.

BMW M5 CS:
Fuel consumption in l/100 km (combined): 11.3 (NEDC) / 11.3 (WLTP)
CO2 emissions in g/km (combined): 258 (NEDC) / 256 (WLTP)

“My first drive was extremely impressive. Given its size, it is incredible that the BMW M5 CS is so agile in tight corners and generally feels so extremely manoeuvrable.”

TESTING THE BMW M5 CS.

Ahead of the endurance race last weekend, De Phillippi was able to extensively test one of the first BMW M5 CS. The BMW works driver who in 2019 won the 24 Hours of Daytona at the wheel of the BMW M8 GTE, is enthusiastic about the special edition of the BMW M5: “You have really surpassed yourselves with this car”.

The new BMW M top model has a rigorous lightweight construction concept to thank for its agility. It enables a weight saving of around 70 kilos over the BMW M5 Competition. The exclusive high-performance vehicle manages the standard sprint from 0 to 100 km/h effortlessly in just 3.0 seconds and reaches 200 km/h after 10.3 seconds. The top speed is 305 km/h – regulated electronically.

The unique driving experience of the BMW M5 CS can be enjoyed by four people in all, two in M carbon seats up front and two in individual seats in the back. A red, 12 o’clock perforation in the M Alcantara steering wheel quotes the design of classic sports cars. The shift paddles are of carbon. “The steering wheel feels very good, and the shift paddles and carbon seats make the driving experience at the racetrack a real delight”, sums up De Phillippi.

BMW M8 GTE makes the podium.

The 59th staging of the 24 Hours of Daytona was a success for BMW Team RLL: After 24 nerve-jangling hours on the legendary Daytona International Speedway, the #24 MOTUL BMW M8 GTE finished third. Car number 25, with Connor De Phillippi at the wheel, ended the classic race in Florida in fifth place – having fought for victory right to the end, a technical problem prevented the team from finishing higher up the leader board.

Official data on power consumption and electric range were determined in accordance with the mandatory measurement procedure and comply with Regulation (EU) 715/2007 valid at the time of type approval. In case of a range, figures in the NEDC take into account differences in the selected wheel and tire size; figures in the WLTP take into account any optional equipment. WLTP values are used for assessing taxes and other vehicle-related charges that are (also) based on CO2 emissions, as well as for the purposes of vehicle-specific subsidies, if applicable. Where applicable, the NEDC values listed were calculated based on the new WLTP measurement procedure and then converted back to the NEDC measurement procedure for comparability reasons. For newly type-tested vehicles since 01.01.2021, the official data no longer exist according to NEDC, but only according to WLTP. For more information on the WLTP and NEDC measurement procedures, see https://www.bmw.com/wltp.
