STATEMENTS STRAIGHT FROM DEVELOPMENT.Frank Isenberg on the BMW M2.

Frank Isenberg doesn’t think much of a comparison with the BMW M4. For him it’s clear, the BMW M2 needs no comparisons. Instead, much more. Similar to the BMW 1 Series M Coupé, he predicts “his” model series will have its own big community of fans and followers.

Frank Isenberg, project head of the BMW M2.

“The design of the BMW M2 is especially powerful and reveals at first glance slight similarities to the BMW M4 Coupé. Yet, upon closer inspection, the origin from the BMW 2 Series line with its muscular forms and compact proportions is unmistakable. These unique visual features already earned the BMW 1 Series M Coupé the status of collectors’ and car lovers’ item – and now with great probability the BMW M2 Coupé as well.”

This prediction is more than a gut feeling, as evidenced by the technical facts, strongly resembling those of a racing car, as well as the spectacular driving specifications of the BMW M2.

Motorsport feeling thanks to the highly-developed engine parts.

“Based on the BMW M235i engine, the BMW TwinPower turbo series inline 6-cylinder engine of the BMW M2 Coupé features a monoscroll turbocharger and the sophisticated engine components from the BMW M4 Coupé. The result is an unbridled pulling power and especially high-rev responsiveness. So the engine turns effortlessly up to 7,000 rpm and turns over with nearly no loss in propulsion. And the motorsport driving qualities gain even more authenticity thanks to the racetrack-ready oil supply, the high-performance cooling system, as well as the exhaust system with electronic flap control.”

The driver of the BMW M2 feels immediately safe and as one with the car.

With all the power that drives the BMW M2, it was very important to all of Frank Isenberg’s developers that the driver should be able bring it to the road as effortlessly as possible.

“The goal of fine-tuning the driving dynamics of the BMW M2 Coupé is a simple handling as possible and a maximum agility – and that in spite of using race sport tested chassis parts. The driver should have the easiest access possible to the car’s driving dynamics qualities and quickly develop a sense of security and trust when driving. We were able to implement this goal in the BMW M2 Coupé optimally thanks to our in-house designed tyres mix – for maximum grip in the extreme areas.”

The result is a car that can handle the balancing act between race track and city streets more skilfully than any other.

A top athlete, even for everyday driving.
“Despite the highly-developed engine and chassis components, we have placed the emphasis on maximum practicality. The M compound brake system can be easily operated with outstanding responsiveness. The M Servotronic offers in every driving situation the highest steering precision and best steering comfort. The combined consumption and emission values of the BMW TwinPower turbo engine are also moved to absolute peaks due to its impressive performance. The BMW M2 Coupé thus offers the best conditions for everyday use – whether to drive to the bakery or work."

For some project leaders, certain features always take centre stage. But for Frank Isenberg only one thing counts: the whole package.

My personal highlight.

“My personal highlight from the BMW M2 Coupé is the overall harmonious and homogenous package. It quickly conveys to the driver the necessary trust in the car to test out extreme areas and to enjoy the pure M driver’s experience.”
