BMW M2 and BMW M2 with M xDrive

THE M2

Combining extremely agile handling, signature M performance and compact dimensions, the BMW M2 embodies the ultimate in pure driving pleasure. In addition to classic rear-wheel drive, this compact high-performance sports car is also available for the first time with M xDrive all-wheel drive – for maximum traction with rear-biased driving dynamics.

is the maximum output of the M TwinPower Turbo inline-6-cylinder engine of the BMW M2 models, taking a top position in its class.

THE MOST POWERFUL BMW M2 EVER.

BMW M2 with M xDrive G87

THE MOST POWERFUL BMW M2 EVER.

The M TwinPower Turbo inline 6-cylinder petrol engine with the new BMW M Ignite technology features dynamic power delivery and the characteristic throaty M engine sound. Highly efficient technologies such as double VANOS, Valvetronic, high precision injection and turbochargers with variable turbine geometry provide excellent performance. The maximum output of the 3.0 litre engine is 353 kW (480 hp).

In rear-wheel-drive form with the optional 6-speed manual gearbox, the BMW M2 reaches 100 km/h from rest in 4.2 seconds. The 8-speed M Steptronic cuts that figure to 4.0 seconds, while the M xDrive model needs just 3.7 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h, or 285 km/h with the optional M Driver’s Package.

WITH M xDRIVE FOR THE FIRST TIME.

WITH M xDRIVE FOR THE FIRST TIME.

For the first time since its launch, the BMW M2 is also available with M xDrive as an option. The all-wheel-drive system distributes power seamlessly and fully variably between the front and rear wheels via an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch in the transfer case. M typical is the system’s rear-wheel-biased design. In everyday driving situations, the BMW M2 with M xDrive is driven exclusively via the rear wheels. Only when these reach the limits of power transmission, the all-wheel-drive system also engages the front wheels. M xDrive is complemented by the Active M Differential, which distributes drive torque between the rear wheels as required and fully variably.

The system can be configured via the M Setup menu and adapted to the driving situation or personal preferences. Among other options, a 2WD mode is available when the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) is deactivated. For a particularly pure driving experience, torque is transmitted solely to the rear wheels.

All-wheel drive makes the powertrain’s performance even more versatile. Combined with the specific chassis setup, it offers traction advantages espacially on tight race tracks and in changing grip conditions.
