“We are very proud to have secured an internationally renowned artist like FUTURA 2000 for the design of our show car. The BMW M2 by FUTURA 2000 exceeds our expectations and is a further step by BMW Individual in its collaboration with world-famous artists.”

THE DESIGN.

High performance that breaks convention.

The exterior, as well as interior trim panels, of the BMW M2 by FUTURA 2000 has been designed and hand-painted by the graffiti pioneer. Altogether, the New Yorker worked on the project for months, from the first design concept to the finished BMW M2 by FUTURA 2000. To achieve the unique look of this M vehicle, FUTURA 2000 applied a total of 3-4 layers of paint by using the BMW M equipment and tools for hand-painting the car. The base colour of this striking work of art is black, which is repeatedly overlaid with sparkling white dots and lightning-like lines. The recurring motif is a circular saw blade, one of FUTURA 2000 signature styles, which was applied by hand with an elaborate process.

THE ARTIST.

Born Leonard Hilton McGurr, FUTURA 2000 established himself as a pioneer when graffiti met the more formal gallery ecosystem in the 1980s. He quickly became known for his radical approach on the street, introducing abstraction to an entirely letter-based discipline, and found himself part of a wider art movement that included the likes of Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, and Dondi White. Besides his decades-long career as a contemporary artist, he has achieved great success as a commercial artist, collaborating with several well-known brands.

Official data on power consumption and electric range were determined in accordance with the mandatory measurement procedure and comply with Regulation (EU) 715/2007 valid at the time of type approval. In case of a range, figures in the NEDC take into account differences in the selected wheel and tire size; figures in the WLTP take into account any optional equipment. WLTP values are used for assessing taxes and other vehicle-related charges that are (also) based on CO2 emissions, as well as for the purposes of vehicle-specific subsidies, if applicable. Where applicable, the NEDC values listed were calculated based on the new WLTP measurement procedure and then converted back to the NEDC measurement procedure for comparability reasons. For newly type-tested vehicles since 01.01.2021, the official data no longer exist according to NEDC, but only according to WLTP. For more information on the WLTP and NEDC measurement procedures, see https://www.bmw.com/wltp.
