The Ultimate Sound Machine is based on a BMW XM Label that has been extensively rebuilt for use as a professional DJ stage. A large section of the roof has been cut out, providing artists and their full equipment with ample space for a spectacular show. Behind the DJ, a two-by-three-square-metre double-sided LED screen is mounted that shows content on both sides. Fixed and movable stage lights, underbody lighting, and a logo projector, together with the four fog machines mounted in the wheel wells, create the perfectly tailored atmosphere for every set..
The entire vehicle was designed and built by BMW trainees at the Dingolfing plant.

The Ultimate Sound Machine was tested by DJ legend Carl Cox during an initial trial in Dingolfing and given the thumbs up. Now the mobile high-performance DJ stage is ready to get to work.

Why has BMW M created a vehicle like this?
We wanted to make the performance of BMW M tangible even beyond the road. We’re probably all familiar with that great feeling of listening to loud music in your car. We wanted to bring that feeling to those who may not yet be able to sit behind the wheel of a wonderful M.
Why the BMW XM?
We needed a vehicle that offered us space, power, and load capacity. And the XM is simply perfect for that, not just because of its presence. This vehicle simply belongs on the stage. It is the first standalone M model since the BMW M1. And thanks to the hybrid technology, the sound, screen, and lighting systems can actually operate independently.
How did the build come about? And who implemented it at BMW M?
This project is actually something very special because we implemented it in collaboration with the apprentices from the Dingolfing plant. The apprentices took on responsibility for both the design and the conversion of the vehicle. They can be really proud of the project. They also assisted in the setup during the first deployment of The Ultimate Sound Machine at the Electric Mountain Festival in Sölden.
Where will the vehicle be used?
Our concept is flexible. We’re focusing on highlight events and on use within Europe. These can be BMW events or events with cooperation partners. And of course, The Ultimate Sound Machine can also be used at music festivals and sporting events. For example, it’s scheduled to be used at the upcoming 24-hour race at the Nürburgring.
What role does DJ Carl Cox play in this project?
Carl Cox is a brand ambassador for the BMW XM and, as a globally renowned top-tier performance DJ, the perfect partner for The Ultimate Sound Machine. He drives a BMW XM himself, is a fan of our brand, and gives the project its voice and soul.
