A powerful inline six-cylinder engine, rear-wheel drive with a 6-speed manual transmission, optional 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission and intelligent BMW xDrive all-wheel drive, plus near perfect 50:50 weight distribution for optimum handling and a sporty coupé design – with these key specifications the BMW M235i Coupé took a top position in its segment. Its 240 kW (326 hp) engine made it the most powerful BMW M Performance car with a petrol engine at the time. Thanks to its carefully coordinated drive and chassis technology, the notchback coupé was the epitome of a new form of intense driving pleasure in this segment.

COUPÉ DESIGN FOR THE COMPACT CLASS.
COUPÉ DESIGN FOR THE COMPACT CLASS.
The BMW M235i holds the distinction of being the first coupé in the M Performance Automobile range. It took the typical M driving dynamics in the compact class to a new level. With its distinctive, dynamic and elegant coupé design, the M235i stood out from the competition. The typical design features of a three-box body with a clearly defined boot and flat silhouette, a long bonnet, frameless doors and a dynamically elongated roof line flowing into the rear gave the M235i Coupé its distinct style.
Subtly contrasting design details such as exterior mirrors, model lettering and accent strips in Ferric Grey on the front side air intakes were further features exclusive to the top model from BMW M.
The BMW 2 Series Coupé follows in the proud tradition of particularly dynamic compact models from the BMW history, such as the legendary BMW 02 series, which created this vehicle segment and introduced the designation 2.
THE MOST POWERFUL M PERFORMANCE MODEL.
THE MOST POWERFUL M PERFORMANCE MODEL.
The number 2 in the model designation stands for superior sportiness, while the letter M stands for attractive options for making the dynamic driving experience even more intense. The BMW M235i Coupé underlined this claim with its 240 kW (326 hp) inline six-cylinder engine. The engine produced 450 Nm of torque and was available with either a 6-speed manual transmission or an optional 8-speed automatic transmission with Steptronic. Both transmissions ensured impressive propulsion via the rear axle alone. This rear-wheel drive, unique in its segment and popular with enthusiasts, gave the M235i a particularly agile driving experience that was unique in the segment. Just four months later, the range was expanded to include a model with an 8-speed Steptronic transmission and the intelligent all-wheel drive BMW xDrive which accelerated the M235i from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds. Equipped with rear-wheel drive and a 6-speed manual transmission, the sprint was completed in 5.0 seconds, while the 8-speed automatic transmission with Steptronic reached the 100 km/h mark in 4.8 seconds. The top speed was electronically limited to 250 km/h for all drive types. Another highlight was the BMW M Performance limited-slip differential in the rear axle transmission, available as an optional extra. It reduces slip on the wheel with less traction by transferring more drive power to the other wheel via a locking effect. This optimises the conversion of engine power into forward propulsion, enabling even more dynamic acceleration out of corners.

HATTRICK AT THE "SPORT AUTO AWARD".
Striking performance and coupé design put the BMW M235i in a top spot in the marketplace – literally: in the year of its market launch, the readers of the German car magazine “sport auto” voted the newcomer winner in its category which earned the M235i the “sport auto Award” 2014. In 2015 and 2016, the compact coupé once again made it onto the podium, impressively demonstrating its outstanding position among the competition.

SUCCESS STORY – PART II: THE BMW M240i COUPÉ.
In 2016, the performance coupé underwent a major technical facelift. The M235i Coupé became the M240i Coupé. The proven and popular combination of an inline six-cylinder engine, rear-wheel drive and optimum weight distribution between the axles for exceptional driving dynamics was retained, while the drive system underwent a noticeable generational change. The B58 engine installed in the M240i Coupé delivered 250 kW (340 hp) and a remarkable 500 Nm of torque. Equipped with an 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission and the intelligent BMW xDrive all-wheel drive system, the M240i xDrive sprinted from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.4 seconds. With rear-wheel drive and a 6-speed manual transmission, the Coupé reached the 100 km/h mark in 4.8 seconds, and with the optional 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission in 4.6 seconds.

AND THE WINNER IS (AGAIN) …
Like its predecessor, the model update BMW M240i immediately secured the 2017 “sport auto Award” in its category. Readers were particularly impressed by the switch to a new engine generation under the bonnet which gave the BMW M240i even greater performance and more dynamic handling.
BMW M240i M PERFORMANCE EDITION.
BMW M240i M PERFORMANCE EDITION.
One year after the launch of the BMW M240i, M GmbH responded to growing demand from fans and customers for greater individualisation with the special model BMW M240i M Performance Edition. Thanks to high-quality exterior components from the M Performance accessory range, the strictly limited-edition model boasts an even sportier appearance. This is largely due to the impressive 19-inch light alloy wheels, which are fitted with mixed tyres in 225/35 R19 at the front and 245/30 R19 at the rear. The high-quality double-spoke forged wheels are finished in Orbit Grey and have a high-gloss finish.
Carbon tailpipe trims with an embossed M logo reinforce the racing character of this special edition model. Front splitter, rear spoiler and exterior mirror caps in carbon, the partially painted rear diffuser and side skirt attachments including M Performance foils round off the dynamic appearance of the BMW M240i M Performance Edition.
ENTRY INTO CUSTOMER RACING.
The BMW M235i Coupé and M240i Coupé also made a mark in motorsport: in 2014, BMW Motorsport launched a new entry-level model for customer racing based on the M235i. The BMW M235i Racing was very well received right from the start and competed successfully for many years in various racing series such as the VLN Endurance Championship Nürburgring, not least in the legendary 24-hour race. The concept of an affordable entry-level vehicle for motorsport was made possible by its proximity to the BMW M235i Coupé. Under the bonnet was the proven inline six-cylinder engine, delivering an increase in power to 245 kW (333 hp) compared to the standard model. Thanks to numerous modifications, the BMW M235i Racing was a fully-fledged racing car that met all the basic requirements for a successful entry-level motorsport model.
In 2018, the customer favourite was upgraded to the BMW M240i Racing. Thanks to an increase in power to 250 kW (340 hp) and optimised engine software, performance was improved once again. And from 2019, BMW Motorsport offered a BMW M240i Racing Evo package for owners to upgrade their BMW 235i Racing models. The value that the BMW M235i Racing F22 and BMW M240i Racing F22 had for entry-level motorsport at the time is evident from the fact that they even competed in their own racing series: the BMW M235i Racing Cup and the BMW M240i Racing Cup.

TIMELESS SUCCESS.
As awards as well as the special edition show, the significance of the BMW 235i Coupé F22 and BMW 240i Coupé F22 for the series cannot be overstated. The Coupé continued the success story of a discipline that has always been one of the M brand's great strengths: the development of powerful, everyday sports cars with compact dimensions. The compact Coupé's aura in the community remains unbroken to this day, which is also reflected in the vehicle's great popularity on the used car market.
