Done In 60 Seconds. The BMW M2 Competition sets two world records.

The task: to break two records that have been set by human beings – and absolute experts in their field at that – in a BMW M. Challenge accepted! BMW M opted to take on this ambitious project with the BMW M2 Competition performing two unique stunts. The 410-hp performance  coupé’s outstanding driving dynamics and driving precision would be of extraordinary importance here. The first tests for the BMW M2 Competition record stunts took place in early 2018 near Bedford in Great Britain. Then, a few weeks later the action would transfer to Cape Town in South Africa, where it was to be filmed for posterity.

BMW M2 Competition:
Fuel consumption in l/100 km (combined): 10.0 - 9.8 (9.2 - 9.0)
CO2 emissions in g/km (combined): 227 - 224 (209 - 206)
The figures in brackets refer to the vehicle with seven-speed M double-clutch transmission with Drivelogic.

4 POWERFUL STUNT FACTS.

  • 01Two stunts, each completed within 60 seconds.
  • 02High-energy laser on the front apron
  • 03Precision blade in the rear
  • 04Challenge to beat: 63 balloons and 87 straw mats

#STUNT 1 - LASER CHALLENGE.

It‘ll all be over in 60 seconds. Admittedly, this offers very little time to burst the required minimum of 64 balloons with a laser, to break the world record in this discipline. The task becomes even more demanding when a vehicle is the protagonist – as maximum precision is required. The BMW M2 Competition stands for maximum agility and performance – and won’t shirk from any challenge. Equipped with a high-energy laser in the middle air intake of the front apron, the race against time and against the balloons can begin!

#STUNT 2 – CUTTING EDGE CHALLENGE.

It’s not just the highest levels of concentration and outstanding power that are necessary for a human to cut 87 rolled up straw mats with one blade in record time. In order to achieve this within 60 seconds, speed and dynamics play an important role. This is exactly where the BMW M2 Competition comes into play to perform the second stunt by drift. Thanks to a specially-prepared precision blade on the left rear of the vehicle, the drift angle, distance to the object and speed had to be perfectly tuned in order to cut the straw mats with maximum precision. But is it really possible to surpass this human world record with an M automobile? Here is the answer.

Vehicle shown with optional equipment.

The values of fuel consumptions, CO2 emissions and energy consumptions shown were determined according to the European Regulation (EC) 715/2007 in the version applicable at the time of type approval. The figures refer to a vehicle with basic configuration in Germany and the range shown considers optional equipment and the different size of wheels and tires available on the selected model. The CO2 efficiency specifications are determined according to Directive 1999/94/EC and the European Regulation in its current version applicable. The values shown are based on the fuel consumption, CO2 values and energy consumptions according to the NEDC cycle for the classification.

For further information about the official fuel consumption and the specific CO2 emission of new passenger cars can be taken out of the „handbook of fuel consumption, the CO2 emission and power consumption of new passenger cars“, which is available at all selling points and at https://www.dat.de/angebote/verlagsprodukte/leitfaden-kraftstoffverbrauch.html.
